ayurveda-handbook

In addition to the fractures and dislocation of joints, there is the problem of dealing with sprains. A sprain occurs when a joint is violently wrenched or twisted within partial rupture of the ligaments or tendons and stretching of the muscles near the joint. A sprain results in severe pain and inflammation. The affected part is incapable of movement.

The first thing to do in a sprain is to immobilize the affected limb. It would then better be immersed in hot water for half an hour. If if is the ankle, add salt to the hot water and let it soak for thirty minutes. Afterwards, the sprained part should be wrapped in cotton wool warmed over a hot plate and tightly bandaged. The process of fomentation should be repeated at least once in 24 hours till relief is obtained.
