BED-WETTING

ayurveda-handbook

Causes: Infants and young children are more prone to pass their urine while asleep. In most cases it is a result of defective training because the act of voiding your bladder or bowels is a voluntary one to a certain extent and if the infants and young children are coddled beyond reasonable limits and strictness is not shown they may fall into the habit of urinating while asleep. The disorder strikes adults also, though rarely. Sometimes, there is involuntary discharge of urine during sleep or while dreaming. The following regimen and remedies should be tried.

Remedies: The person susceptible to the disorder must void his bladder before going to sleep; his intake of liquids should be curtailed and some of the remedies mentioned above (for polyurea) should be tried if there is a tendency towards excessive urine output. In other cases, two tolas of Sesame Seeds should be mixed with one tola of Ajwain and three tolas of Gur. Six mashas of the confection should be taken in the morning and evening. Alternatively, five tolas of Nagarmotha should be finely ground, sifted and mixed with 15 tolas of Honey. Nine mashas of the mixture should be taken in the morning and evening. Alternatively, five tolas of Kulinjan should be finely ground, sifted and mixed with 15 tolas of honey. Two doses of 9 mashas each should be taken in the morning and evening.
