PTERYGIUM (OPAQUENESS)

Causes and Symptoms: Pterygium is the name applied to a patch of opaque tissue gradually extending over part of the cornea. It is a red triangular patch on the white of the eye which may not be inconvenient beyond a blemish, but if it covers of the whole of the pupil it may result in loss of vision. The following remedies should be tried to deal with pterygium.

Remedies: Six mashas of Rock Salt should be ground with one Clove and stored in a phial. The powder should be applied to the affected eye daily to deal with the spot. Or, Turmeric should be roasted in the fire and mixed with an equal amount of roasted Alum and the two powdered together, sifted and stored in a phial. The powder should be applied to the eyes for a couple of weeks.

If the above remedies are not effective, expert surgical help should be sought.
